Construction

Cables are a key element in the construction industry, providing power supply to buildings, lighting, data transmission, and support for various technologies. The choice of the appropriate cable directly depends on the type of construction and the specific requirements of the project.

Examples of application on the construction site:

  • Connecting lighting masts and temporary lighting.
  • Power supply for welding machines and concrete mixers;
  • Organization of temporary switchboards;
  • Installation of temporary power lines from diesel generators.

Main types of cables for construction:

  • Power cables (VVG, KG, AVVG, etc.) are used to transmit electrical power to various loads.
    • VVG — copper conductors, PVC insulation and sheath.
    • AAVG — aluminum conductors, PVC insulation and sheath.
  • Flexible cables are used for temporary connections, especially if the cable is frequently moved. Examples: KG, KGtp with stranded conductors.
  • Non‑flammable and low‑smoke cables (ng‑LS, ng(A)-HF) are ideal for temporary power supply in enclosed spaces, tunnels and basements, as they emit minimal amounts of smoke and toxic gases.
  • Armored cables are used for laying in trenches or underground and have increased mechanical strength.
  • Hybrid cables — with combined insulation (for example, PVC‑XLPE) — combine the flexibility and ease of installation of PVC with the improved performance of XLPE for specific operating conditions.

Basic requirements:

  • Wear resistance — resistance to mechanical damage and abrasion.
  • Flexibility is important for frequent relocations and temporary layovers.
  • Temperature resistance is the ability to operate at low and high temperatures.
  • Fire resistance and safety are preferred — cables with the indices нг-LS or нг(A)-HF are preferable.

Standards:

The cables used in construction must comply with GOST and the requirements of the PUE.

  • GOST 31996-2012 — cables with PVC insulation.
  • GOST R 70819-2022 — cables with plastic insulation for underground installation, rated for voltages up to 35 kV.
